[ In addition to the dinner (a veritable feast of stir-fried vegetables of all kinds, tomato egg, beef and chicken skewers, more rice than anyone will know what to do with and a not insignificant amount of beer – all of it made in quantities great enough to feed the castle inhabitants, any guests Vash invites, and then some) and dessert (donuts, homemade – they're a little misshapen and some are slightly overcooked because Maruki's infinitely more of a cook than he is a baker, but they're tasty and made with love!) Vash will also receive a vintage book of constellations and their associated mythology and folklore, to supplement his stargazing. Maruki found it in the library during his week of forced rest and traded an untold number of shards to buy it from them outright, certain as he was of its proper home.
Inside the book is a simple, plain notecard:
Happy Birthday, Vash!
You've made this place a home to me.
To many more years of your happiness, in this reality or in any other.
[Happy Birthday!! For both of their sakes, Akechi makes his own quiet contribution to the sentimental affair with a small bag left outside of Vash's door. Inside is a red journal, a nice pen and a note on the first blank page.
Happy Birthday.
You can use this for whatever you want, of course.
But perhaps your brother, or others, would like to read an account of your life someday - what's happened in this reality and prior. Journaling is often a healing, cathartic practice and he would get to know what you experienced in a format he enjoys.
I can not TELL you, duh! It is not GIFT if you are TOLD
[GOSH, vash. obviously.
But she abandons her texting now to go search for him. Getting around hurts, but it's easier to ignore when she's got a GOAL in mind. She glances around until she sees him and then waves enthusiastically] Vash! Ready for gift?
Haha, it's still a gift even if I know what it is. It's giving that's important.
[ He had more to say but she's outside and talking to him face to face. Mostly. Vash stands up and dusts off his hands and then his butt before turning to look at Oona more directly. He laughs a little, his brows pinched upward. ]
You know, you don't have to give me anything. But I'm ready, sure.
Yes, I know. I would not give if I did not want to. [She waves a hand at him dismissively.
But then she grins and hurries at him, not really running but definitely...moving quickly?? Anyway, it's fine, because she doesn't launch herself at him, but she does stop just short of slamming into him to throw her arms around him instead]
[ He almost ALMOST flinches, but he probably could have moved out of the way if he wanted. Instead he stands firm, and winds up in a hug. He blinks a little, and to keep from holding his arms out in an awkward way he slowly brings them around to return the hug. Oona's almost the same size as Meryl, it's a little endearing maybe. ]
Yes! A gift of a hug! [She laughs brightly and tilts her head up to grin at him]
I do not give enough of them, I like them. Maruki always likes hugs, Akechi will be upset. I have not hugged you yet! [She can't quite tell if he likes it or not and tilts her head slightly]
